Drumming White-backed Woodpecker in Bergen, western Norway 20 April 2014. It is pretty easy to distinguish the drumming of White-backed and Great Spotted Woodpeckers. The White-backed has longer duration, and the whirl fades towards the end. The White-backed Woodpecker is the county bird of Hordaland. It is pretty common in suitable habitat, and they usually do their drumming early in the morning. The individual you can hear on this video was recorded at noon. I have never experienced a drumming White-backed that late in the day before.
